MONITOR SDR Boards

Radio and signal processing cards for low power wireless applications

MAC Ltd’s MONITOR product family includes a number of software-configurable digital signal processing platforms intended for use in radio frequency (RF) receiver and transceiver applications. The MONITOR products are available in assembled printed circuit board (PCB) form for integration into larger systems. They also form the basis of MAC Ltd’s CatchAll™ radio products. In addition to the standard products listed below, MAC Ltd is happy to discuss the customisation of existing products and/or the development of new bespoke hardware and software.

MON4000 - Dual-Channel, Multi-Band Down-Converter

The MON4000 card is the latest software defined radio platform in MAC Ltd's MONITOR family. Primarily designed for off-air test applications in cellular radio bands the MON4000 boasts two channels of RF-to-bits conversion for up to six distinct bands in the frequency range 400 to beyond 4000 MHz. Each receiver uses an IF sampling architecture to guarantee excellent dynamic range as needed for use in a multi-channel environment. Local processing is performed by a Xilinx Zynq 7020 FPGA and two gigabit Ethernet channels carry baseband samples to the host. With external support the MON4000 can also be used in phase-coherent applications.

Applications of the MON4000 card include cellular band test receivers, direction finding, beamforming systems, MIMO reception, multi-channel wideband receivers and unattended monitoring systems.

MON3120 - Compact Low-Power HF Receiver

Based on the MON3100 DSP platform, the MON3120 card is a low-power, high performance, software-defined high-frequency (HF) radio receiver. Signals in the HF spectrum from 5 to 30 MHz are digitised directly so that signals of interest can be extracted in the digital domain using the MON3120's 150k cell Xilinx Spartan 6 FPGA and Texas Instruments TMS320C6748 fixed/floating point DSP processor. Baseband sample data are transferred to a host PC via a high-speed USB interface. The MON3120 is supplied in a 2.5” hard-disk form factor.

Applications of the MON3120 card include RF measurement equipment, HF signal capture and HF signal analysis. Custom applications can also be developed on request.

MON3600 - Four-Channel, Wideband, Phase-Coherent Receiver

The MON3600 card is a four-channel, phase-coherent receiver combined with a single channel transmitter. In conjunction with the MON3100 baseband signal processing card it creates a complete software defined transceiver consuming less than 10 W and with a footprint of only 60 by 100 mm. The MON3600 contains two pairs of 20 MHz bandwidth phase-coherent receivers, which together cover the frequency range from 200 MHz to 2.5 GHz, and a single channel transmitter, with a modulation bandwidth of 10 MHz and frequency range 200 MHz to 2.2 GHz.

Applications of the MON3600 card include direction finding, RF measurement equipment, beamforming systems, MIMO reception, multi-channel wideband receivers and unattended monitoring systems.

MON3500 - Tri-Band Down-Converter

The MON3500 card down-converts any cellular radio frequency band between 400 MHz and 2400 MHz to an intermediate frequency of 140 MHz. It may be configured at time of manufacture to support any three operating bands from the 40+ bands that are used around the world by cellular radio systems such as GSM, UMTS and LTE. For added flexibility an auxiliary input is provided for use with an external band filter so that a fourth operating band may be chosen when the card is installed.

Consuming only 1 W and with a board size of 60 by 60 mm, it can be combined with the MON3100 DSP card to create an extremely compact and low power cellular band receiver.

Applications of the MON3500 card include survey receivers, custom test equipment and unattended monitoring systems.
