Who we are, MAC Ltd's Management Team
Each of the four members of MAC Ltd's management team has over 40 years experience in the mobile communications industry. Each has a First Class Honours degree in Electronic Engineering, is a Chartered Engineer in the UK and is a Member or Fellow of The IET. All have strong technical backgrounds combined with proven track records of successfully delivering a wide range of projects with demanding requirements, each having managed contracts with values ranging from a few tens of thousands to £1m+.
Peter joined the company in 1991 and the Board in 2000, serving as Consulting Services Director until taking on the role of Managing Director in 2023. Peter has overall responsibility for the consulting services the company provides to regulators, commercial cellular/PMR operators, and users of wireless communications systems. He also leads the company's internal and collaborative research activities, and acts as an expert witness in patent court cases.
John joined the company in 1990 and the Board in 2000, initially as Engineering Director, transitioning to Design Services Director in 2009 and then taking on the role of Technical Director in 2023. While John has overall responsibility for the contract design services the company provides to defence and government organisations, he retains a wide technical brief covering the design, modelling and simulation of all types of fixed and mobile radio systems.
Following his early career development at Roke Manor and Shaye Communications, David joined both the company and the Board in 1992, initially as Technical Director, becoming Managing Director in 2004. David stepped down from the MD role in June 2023, handing over to his long-time Board colleague Peter Gould. In his almost 20 years at the helm David has kept the company afloat through two recessions and has handed over during a period of growth, fuelled by its success in providing high-quality software and firmware design services. David will remain with the company as a full-time employee & Director and will focus his time on quality and engineering roles.
Howard joined the company in 1993 and the Board in 2004, taking on his current role of Operations Director in 2009. Howard divides his time between oversight of the company's financial and business operations, and management of internal and external engineering activities, with particular interests in machine-to-machine (M2M) communications and radio interference mitigation.
David Hendon joined MAC as a non-executive director in 2012. He is a visiting professor at Surrey University and chairman of the 5G Innovation Centre's Strategy Advisory Board. He is independent Chairman of the 4G/TV Co-existence Oversight Board established by DCMS. He is a member of the Smart Meters Steering Group & Strategic Programme Board at BEIS, a Senior Technical Advisor on ESN to the Home Office, deputy-chairman of the Radio Communications Foundation and a member of the IET's Communications Group. He was Chairman of the Board of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute from 1996 to 1999.
Mike has a wealth of commercial and operational experience on the High Street, having worked with Grand Metropolitan PLC, Whitbread PLC, Laurel Pub Company and latterly with P&O Ferries on the main board. He really enjoyed corporate life both in the boardroom and at the sharp end, always happy to talk to customers and staff alike and was always seen in the business actually walking the talk. He is someone who puts the interests of the organisation above his own and someone who is absolutely dedicated and committed to achieving excellence in everything he puts his mind to. When he is not working he relaxes by climbing in the Alps, running marathons, extreme off road cycling, long distance endurance events and invests in fine wines which is a real passion.
